To Telecommute, or not to Telecommute

working_from_homeThat is the question. Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of home office convenience, or to battle against a sea of traffic and by opposing, get to work on time.

I don’t know if my high school drama teacher, Mrs. Van Holt, would be proud that I remember Shakespeare or upset with my butchering of said. But it’s a valid question.

A quick internet search taught me that 79% of U.S. workers say they would like to work from home at least part of the time. And there is no shortage of published statistics that suggest there are many benefits. Some I found are:

  • A savings of $11,000 per person per year for a typical business
  • A savings of $2,000 to $7,000 a year for telecommuters
  • Employee productivity increase of up to 15%
  • Reduced employee absenteeism and burn out
  • Increased employee retention

Edge Solutions Group has both office and telecommuting staff to provide you with the fastest and most reliable service available. A well-established IT infrastructure can make your processes for employees working remotely seamless. Did you know that one of our Technology Architects, Nestor, is in Madrid, Spain? Many of our clients don’t.

I asked Nestor how he feels about telecommuting and he said, “I feel much more relaxed and less stressed out. I feel more focused and less distracted working from home because when I’m in the office I can be distracted by other staff or office chatter. And I really appreciate the time savings as I don’t have to deal with traffic.”

Call or email Edge Solutions Group today to discuss the best telecommuting options available to you and your staff. It will certainly save you the time spent vacillating like Hamlet did. But then again, at least that gives you something to do while trapped at 5 MPH on the 10 freeway. (Did I say 5 MPH? Must have been a light traffic day.)
